Debra Thornton
Debra Walden Thornton – Director, Registered Music Together® Teacher, Level I and II Certified.
Debra is a licensed Music Together Center Director and a Level I and II Certified Music Together teacher. She holds a B.A. in Visual and Performing Arts with a concentration in Vocal Music from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (1994), and she has been teaching music to children since 1997. She currently lives in Brevard County, Florida, where she runs Youth in Harmony®, a program that offers music and yoga classes for all ages.
Debra is a seasoned performer (vocalist, dancer & actor) with a professional career spanning more than 35 years. She has performed, toured (U.S. and Europe) and recorded with such companies as the New York Ensemble for Early Music, Bachworks (NY), Bronx Opera (NY), Caramoor Opera (NY), Maureen Fleming (NY), The Maryland Camerata, Phoenix Repertory Dance Company (MD), and Washington Opera (D.C.). In addition, she has shown original choreography and performance art work in various locations in NY and MD. Here in Brevard County, FL, she runs and performs with Bard Lite Condensed Shakespeare Company and the Olde Tyme Carolers. She is also on the Administrative Team that runs the Brevard Renaissance Fair. Her most advanced music students, the Youth in Harmony A Cappella Choir, perform all over the county throughout the year, including at the Brevard Renaissance Fair.
In 2001, Debra created and began to teach Yogamomba®, a program of yoga, dance and song for moms with infants and young children.
She is the mother of two: a son who was born in 2001, and a daughter born in 2007. Being a mom, she says, has been her proudest and most fulfilling work of all.
